◆AN EMPTY GLASS Anna Keiko, China

◆AN EMPTY GLASS

The cup full of spring water was in sight

It is a part of my body.

I tried to drink it,

But when I tried,

The glass was empty.

Where did the water go

In no time?

Is existence

No more than a glass of water?

It’s a mystery, it’s confusion.

What happened?

Yesterday, I was here at the same time

And filled the glass.

Would the water not have disappeared

If I had remained here?

Was my mind trapped in the glass

Or…?

Anna Keiko, China

Reviews in English

This poem “An Empty Glass” by Anna Keiko China is a beautiful and philosophical reflection on life and the nature of existence. The poem explores themes such as life, aging, loss, and the search for meaning and purpose.

The poem starts by introducing a glass of water, which is a common symbol of life and renewal. The glass is described as being full of water, representing the fullness and potential of life. However, the poet then reveals that when he or she tries to drink from the glass, it is empty, signifying that life’s fulfillment and happiness are not always guaranteed.

The second part of the poem delves deeper into existential themes and questions the meaning of life and existence. The glass of water becomes a metaphor for life, and the question “Is existence no more than a glass of water?” is a query into the true essence of being. The poet then goes on to express confusion and perplexity about the meaning and purpose of life.

The final part of the poem sheds more light on the poet’s thoughts. The line “Yesterday, I was here at the same time and filled the glass” recalls a time when the poet was young and full of life and possibility. The water that has disappeared from the glass could signify the loss of innocence, hope, or energy that comes with aging and entropy. The concluding line “Was my mind trapped in the glass or…” suggests that the poet may be aware of his or her own self-limiting mind-set and his or her role in his or her own entrapment.

This poem “An Empty Glass” is written in simple language that belies its complex thoughts on life, existence, time, and entropy. It is a powerful and thought-provoking work that leaves the reader reflecting on the transience of life and the search for meaning and purpose. The use of imagery and symbolism, particularly in relation to the glass of water, creates a deep sense of resonance and allows the reader to connect with the poem on a personal level.

The themes explored in this poem are universal, traversing time and space, and speak to us all. We can all relate to the idea of loss, aging, and the search for meaning in life. The poem’s final line, “Was my mind trapped in the glass or…”, leaves us with an unanswered question that resonates long after we have finished reading. This poem is an invitation to reflect on our own lives and existence. It prompts us to question our own role in creating our reality and how we can break free from self-imposed limitations to truly live and embrace the potential and promise of each moment. “An Empty Glass” is a beautiful testament to life’s poignant truths

1Preface

By ANNAKEIKO

underneath the profoundly asleep earth,

among illusory constructions of reality

in the heavy rhythm that knocks at the gate of history

time dissipates darkness, the dawn breaks

fragments of memories unite into one image

portraying the people from thousands of years ago

they had never seen before

the soul rising from the ruins

lightning stimulates the sleep hormone

the words sprout from the roots of the trees

the branches raise their eyes to the sky

the tears from above soothe the dry throat

insomnia brings about disorder

sleepwalk spreads like clouds

on the edge, people seek faith,

the swan isolates, the sea roars.

the wheel of time loses direction

fierce winds swirl the calm waves

the dark flow of purple rain floods the newly sprouted flowers

the dike is no longer on the shore

the sea is no longer in the sea

the pleasures of life create wings of light

lush branches and leaves grow from rotten logs

postmodernism indicates a bright period

the white sheet inscribed with yellow and red symbols

like barren lands sprinkled with saliva and salt

millennial expressions permeate ink and paper

the profound words awake from the drawers on the walls

the eyes in the tombs frightfully stare

the trembling hand reaches into the library in the afternoon sun

dusk and dawn go on

close the book, wash, and sleep

before thinking about the future at another time

stop learning

do an imitation writing

with no assumptions or reiterations

I left the room and found myself in a beautiful village

not the native place, but one the navigator cannot reach

with mountains covered by green woods, boundless wilderness,

and wind that sounds like music

playing on the flute, a shepherd child came toward me

I could see the face like a flower mirrored in the stream

why don’t the children go to school and work in the city?

they laughed without answering, their clear eyes

were like dewdrops from the sun

the elders said

here are no schools, hospitals, or shopping centers,

only fantastic green fields everywhere

not McDonald’s, KFCs –

the doctor works the land; the farmer writes poems

one of the elders looked sad, for his son fled the village,

taking with him other young people

I tell him I live in Shanghai

where my family is, and that I am writing a long poem

no one answered, the peasant woman brought a flavorful tea

have some tea, so you won’t get sick after drinking it

I was frightened and declined, and she left in a hurry

birds swim in the blue sky, small flowers wave their petals

not knowing about Paul Celan, Saddam, Trump

loving the land, the mountains, everything under the blue sky

a rope bridge without reinforcing bars; across the riverbank

curled smoke, cock crowing, strong cattle

I tried to say goodbye to the past and come here to live

but I could not find the way back to Shanghai, I couldn’t find home

you are in Shanghai, someone said

I clearly saw houses surrounded by mountains

the melodious flute, the cows eating the grass, the horse in heat

nothing could have been predicted, or could it testify

the one who travels through the mountains and rivers in search of self

in another place

watches with joy the birth and death of a plant,

who is the one standing in front of the window, listening to the singing of frogs and birds?

how many people live under the skin?

what did this person go through?

who is reconstructing the order of the soul?

I suspect that what we learned is not true

a kind of illusion that steals or sees through non-existence, or

it is I who doesn’t believe in evil, who dominates thinking

who encourages me to read, think, and write poetry—

a bird, a bug, a leaf,

or a few fishes and shrimps that died under the tires?

I know my parents have been dead for many years

does the sound come from the opposite construction site?

birds fly into the room

are they seeking asylum? or…

how to explain these existences, I’m perplexed

many people in the square talk about poetry and the universe

war and marketing

the face of flame, coming out of the dark ages

finds the bright gulf, the violent blood vessel waves

the popular comic performers raised their voices, the audience

stands on tiptoes and holds their head up, regardless of the cold and heat

the bewitcher is like a wizard,

with messy hair and a face like a stone statue

I don’t understand the applause from the audience, as if the wind shook the trees

rushing home, I fell in love with growing plants

life has changed

a plant hides a world that was once incomprehensible

I hear sounds from the joints,

I am alive

the sun shines on different faces

rain is a magic pen

writing down all things on earth

2023 The first Huifeng Chinese and Foreign poetry Exchange Meeting

Distinguished guests, Poets, ladies and Gentlemen, Good morning!

Iam Anna KeikoACC, President of Shanghai Huifeng International Literature Association

First of all, I sincerely thank Zhai Yuxi, president of the Poetry Association of North America and his team of poets and artists. On behalf of ACC Shanghai Huifeng International Literature, I would like to welcome friends to come. At the same time, I would like to thank the Shanghai Brothers Poetry
Society and poetry friends from all over the world, because poetry is the spiritual soil of poets, she will nourish our hearts, grow beautiful and poetic flowers of art.

In the warm and pleasant early summer, we are gathered here in Shanghai in the conference room of China General Nuclear Research and Development Center.
Today is Mother’s Day. Here I would like to all mothers in the world to extend the most cordial greetings!

Mother is the creator of life, thicker than blood is a mother’s love, so there is Meng Jiao pen, loving mother hands line, wandering clothes. Have, give birth to me to nurture me, take care of me to return my desire to the virtue, good sentence.

Poetry has become a bridge of communication across cultures and regions. Chinese culture is extensive and profound. Five thousand years of civilization has left us a huge spiritual treasure book. Reading classic poems and texts can deepen our understanding of national spirit and excellent culture. As a poet, we should not only read the classics, but also create new poems belonging to our times, with a conscious mission to let our new poems flourish in innovation.

Dream Autore:Anna Keiko

If someone would ask me

What is the meaning of your life?
I would reply
That I met an angel.
Who enriched my life
Encounter with her, divine will
With her I feel like a flower who meets spring
Like an iceberg who meets a warm current
Her vivacity and smile encourage me
Give birth to my determination
With her I want to go all over the world
Wander into the abyss of words
Coexist with suffering
Dance with words
She is my other life.
I love her as light
When I’m in trouble
I think of her
Like the dark thinks of the light.

Anna

ASPETTANDO L’AUTOBUS(意大利语)

Sto aspettando l’autobus
ne passano diversi per la stazione
vanno in molte direzioni

mentre cammina, oppure corre

À ESPERANDO DO AUTOCARRO

Estou à espera do autocarro.

As árvores hibernam e despertam,
apenas algumas estrelas permanecem despertas.
Continuo à espera do autocarro.

MENANTI BIS (印尼语)

Aku menanti bis
Banyak bis memintasi stasiun
Tujuan bis-bis itu berlainan
Tetapi tak ada bis ke zona kuhendaki

Aku menanti, sejak musim dingin hingga musim semi
Aku menanti kala hari mulai kelam hingga fajar menjelang

Pohon-pohon terlelap dan terjaga,
Juga burung-burung
Kota sudah lelap ribuan warsa
kecuali beberapa bintang tetap terjaga.

KUSUBIRI BASI (斯瓦希里语)

Nasubiri basi
Mabasi mengi yanapitiya kwenye stesheni
Yanaenda sehemu tofauti
Lakini hakuna basi lakunipeleka pale ninapotaka

Bado nasubiri, kutoka majira ya baridi hadi masika.
Hakuna anayejali kuhusu watu wanaongojea basi
Wanatembea, au wanakimbia
Nasubiri kutoka gizani hadi alfajiri

Miti hulala na kuamka,
Vivyo hivyo na ndege
Jiji limelala kwa maelfu ya miaka
isipokuwa nyota chache hukaa macho.
Sijui umbali wa sehemu ninayotaka kwenda
Naendelea kusubiri basi.

CZEKAJAC NA AUTOBUS (波兰语)

Czekam na autobus
Wiele autobusów mija ten dworzec
Jadą do różnych miejsc
