Spring Willows
With a skirt dancing in the spring
You, the spring willow, are endowed with of quality of poetry revealing the nature of tenderness
And once walked into the Tang Dynasty with an inner elegance
By which the great poet He Zhizhang was fascinated
Thus beside the Twenty-four Bridge of the West Lake
Nestled the most beautiful spring flowers and moon night
On the Baling Bridge in the ancient city of Changan
Happened countless legends of love
You saw the beauty’s fair reflection in the lake
While she was washing fine gauze with her fine fingers
You followed Zuo Zongtang to the battle field and left famous story
You were all over the way of the troop swaying in wind and rain
You are soft as if having no bones, you are good at singing and dancing
You meditate in the temple, cultivate morality in the farm house
You are a little comely country girl
You are destined to win fame for your charming temperament

Blankness
From the beginning of birth
A man is doomed to be a huge blankness
Life is a hollow container
Waiting to be filled by matters of life itself
The sun rises when the moon sets, seasons come and go in order
Rains nourish crops to feed gluttonous stomachs
Bones absorb salt and grow strong
Fresh blood surges under the power life hormones
The love of the loner is more remote
The day never knows why the night is dark
Life is a chess game controlled by nothingness
No one can escape from the destiny of reincarnation

About the author:
A poet and critic, Fan Hui, pen name Xue Ye, is a member of Gansu Writers Association. He has published many poems on newspapers and magazines both at home and abroard. He has won more than thirty literature rewards, and his poems have been selected in more than twenty anthologies. He has published five books of poetry, essays and novels. His poetry view is: writing is burning oneself to illuminate others.
About the translator:
A master of English Linguistics & Literature, Qi Fengyan was born in Kangping, Liaoning province. She is a member of Chinese Poetry Society and a director of Bai Juyi Poetry Research Society. Some of her poems, essays and literature review articles have been published on journals and newspapers such as Grain in Ear, Yangtze River, Sea Swallow, Liaohe River, Selected Essays (original edition), Chinese Literature, Yangcheng Evening News, Short Stories, People’s Daily (overseas edition), Heilongjiang Daily, Entrepreneur Daily, Jiangnan Times and West China Metropolis Daily. She is the chief translator of the International Bilingual Publication Project of Chinese Poetry and the Chinese Children’s Poetry Project. She is also the chief translator of the Chinese Poem. She has won the Second Prize of the 2018 China Prose Annual Conference and the 2019 Western Prose Association Critic Award. She has published two co-translation works.
